Nothing like a little positive reinforcement to get more responses to your blog. Great thinking! Yes, Michael is amazing. He called me to let me know he got honorable mentioned. HAHA

Dear Alissa,
Your mom just read to us the longest blog ever. It sure sounds different than the life we are living. Justin just had sushi last night. Amelia says she has a cat and was sushi for Halloween and Nicholas adores rats. We liked your blog a lot. It must be hard to live in a shed like you said. (Jake) Have you seen any baseball players yet? We know there are some real great ones from the DR? What movie did you watch in Spanish and what was your 45 point word in Spanish? Hasta luego. Escribe pronto.

Dear Clara´s class,

Thanks so much for your comments! I am very happy to hear that you are reading and enjoying my blog. One of the goals of the Peace Corps is to share our experiences here with people back home so that you guys can learn about the Dominican Republic and the Dominican people too! The belief is that if we learn more about each other and understand each other better, there will be less violence in the world.
It is strange to live in a place far away from home with different customs and a different language, but it is also so interesting to experience life the way so many people outside the US do. We are working to help development and to help the people here improve their standard of living. That basically just means that we are trying to help them gain more skills, get better jobs, get electricity and running water, and live healthier lifestyles. So many of these are things we take for granted back in the US. For instance, we all have running water and electricity in our homes but here many people do not. Also, we learn in school how to make good decisions, what foods are healthy, and what causes diseases. However, most people here do not have the same type of education that we are fortunate to have in the US and do not learn all of these things. It is our job as Peace Corps Volunteers to use what we have learned in the US and to help teach people here so that they can improve their own lives. My specific project is information technology. I will be helping teach students how to use computers so that they can learn how to type, to research, and so they can use the computer as a learning tool. Computer skills are pretty valuable here and are a great way to get a job. I don’t remember ever being taught how to use a computer because we grow up with them as a part of our daily lives, but most people here don’t even know how to use a mouse! So, I am hoping that teaching them these skills will be helpful.
As to some of your other questions, my 45 point word in scrabble was “voz” which means voice. It was worth so much because it was on the triple word score square. Sadly, I have not yet seen any famous baseball players, but other volunteers have! And the sushi Halloween costume, that sounds amazing!
Keep your questions coming- I am happy to answer them!
